For more than 35 years, the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy has provided therapy with an emphasis on creating a safe environment that supports individual growth. The Institute is a licensed clinic which also offers advanced training and continuing education to professionals. Within the Treatment Center, the Center for Young Children and Families services families at risk.

School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

The Counseling and Mental Health Service (CMHS) at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) is a unique opportunity to reach out to the college-aged population and offer on-site, short-term counseling (6-8 sessions).

Program Philosophy
Our work is based on creating a safe environment in which students may explore the difficulties they are experiencing and behaviors that bring success.

Counseling Services
Many college students present with a number of unique developmental challenges. These issues can involve, among others:

Separation/Individuation
Sexuality and Sexual Identity
Peer and School Pressures
Drug and Alcohol Exposure
Onset of Psychiatric Illness

Intervention during this developmental time has long lasting, positive effects. Moreover, the counselors are there to advise Student Life staff concerning the best ways to support students and see students and staff in short term counseling. Referrals are made to the BIP as indicated, thereby offering full clinic services to the school. These services include:

On-Going Psychotherapy
Psychopharmacology
Group Therapy

BIP staff consults with the Office of Student Affairs and Advising at the SMFA to develop ways to support and identify at-risk students.
